Born on 21 July, 1952 in Moscow.
In 1979 graduated from the Department of Russian and Soviet art of the Moscow State University.
1979-1984 – worked at the exhibition department of the Central House of Artists, Moscow.
1991- 2004 – lived and worked in New York, USA.
In 1991 bought her first Pentax camera in New York.
Since 1997 a member of the AIC (Association of Art Critics).
In 2000 photographies by Maria Plavinskaya were published in the book: Dmitri Plavinsky / J. E. Bowlt, A. Jakimovich, E. Plavinskaya-Mikhailova, D. Plavinsky. - New York: Rizzoli International Publications, 2000.
Currently lives and works in Moscow.
