Andrea Belluso is a recognised advertising photography professional. Early in his career, he started learning the tricks of the trade that deploys illusion to stir desire or, rather more often, yearning for beauty.

Equally expert at all kinds of tasks, Belluso can discreetly subdue his own expressive voice in order to emphasise the advantages of a certain product or brand. He views advertising photography as a welcome challenge, a chance to engage in an inner dialogue, reflect on the nature of creativity, and establish himself as an artist whose primary tool is light. Andrea’s art entirely relies on his proficiency in handling this delicate substance that harbours endless expressive opportunities. In one of his studio’s promotional videos, we see him articulate the widely accepted tips of indoor photography – albeit with a slight nuance of meaning. From a formal point of view, Belluso describes the creation of different moods and images with the aid of flash and other light sources; however, one gains a completely different perspective on what is going on by accepting the artist’s notion of ‘painting’ with a camera.

It is precisely his virtuoso treatment of light that allowed Andrea to gain a firm foothold in the world of photography with its hierarchies and specialisms. I do not follow predefined formulas on how to photograph; rather, I use my knowledge of light to transform each image into a dream. I believe that creating these dreams is an essential part of an advertising photographer’s role, as advertising should not only sell but, above all, inspire,’ says the artist.
